Squishing oysters
We did a lot of baking and cooking while Shell was here. Pies, little harvest cakes, mocha cakes, the " southern meal" and of course turkey, oyster dressing and all the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner. My Mom always made oyster dressing and we all loved it. ...well, everyone but my brother and Mom would make a separate batch of dressing just for my brother without oysters in it. She taught me how to make the dressing and every since Shell was a little girl, she would " squish" the oysters for me. It's a really icky job when you don't like getting your hands " icky" but it never bothered Shell to be "icky".
I have to say, the big chalk board in the kitchen has turned out to be one of the most fun things in the house. I had drawn " Thanksgiving pictures" on it and left a space at the bottom because I knew Shell would want to play on it too. .....and she did. It's a long story about " Mr HaHa" and I'll tell ya about it one of these days. Shell drew " Mr. HaHa, the Indian to complete the Thanksgiving chalk board. It made us laugh as Mr. HaHa always does. ( Gene, George and Becca will all laugh when they see the picture of the chalk board)
Shell said it was weird being in the house for Thanksgiving because there weren't any " memories" in it yet, but we made some while she was here and even started a new tradition for the years to come. All in all, it was a "GREAT" Thanksgiving and we were very lucky that Shell came up to spend it with us.
