A Winter Hike

Crystal clear icicles

We waited a couple of days until the main road going through the forest was cleared before heading to hike in the snow. It was 22 degrees when we headed out on our hike and 29 degrees when we were finished. We were dressed in really good winter clothes...so it wasn't bad at all. Let me tell you....hiking in the snow is a different experience! It takes twice as much effort to even walk. It's a good thing we only had to hike about a mile to find this canyon and creek. Boy! did we find a " jack pot" though.....as Chuck called it ..." an ice cave". It was the side of the canyon and the icicles were as long as we were tall. It was the neatest thing ever. We had to be careful getting back behind the icicles though because of the layer of ice under and around them. They were crystal clear....you could see all the way through them. I bet not too many people had a picnic lunch in the snow today. We did!...hot chicken noodle soup, multi-grains chips and hot tea/coffee. I think this hike will stand out in our minds for a long time. Winter doesn't get any better than this one, so far. ....building snowmen, sledding, making snow ice cream, hiking in deep snow and finding the biggest icicles anyone could wish for.
