An eight pound sweet potato!!!

What we brought home with us!

There is a community garden about five miles up the road from us.  It's just a couple of blocks from Andrea's house.  She showed it to me last December and I got a couple of huge cabbages then.  This year, the man planted all kinds of things.  Broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, sweet potatoes, cabbage and collards.  Every one of them were just beautiful and HUGE!  Shell and I went over there this afternoon to see what we could pick.  Andrea met us there because she knows the man.  His name is Jerry.  He is a super nice man and told us all about the garden.  When he planted it and when he fertilized it. When he sprayed it with a natural spray, which was only when he first put the plants in the ground.  So all that we picked is chemical free. We tasted the broccoli and it was the best I have ever eaten.  It had so much flavor!!! We had so much fun, pulling up the turnips.  We just wanted to keep pulling..ha. Jerry had two big trailers full of sweet potatoes that he had dug. He charged 50 cents a pound for them.  The biggest one weighted 8 pounds! What a fun afternoon we had and now we get to have the freshest veggies ever, for dinner this week.  As I write this, cabbage slices are in the oven, roasting for dinner. Tomorrow...turnips!!!
