Yesterday, Chuck and I did another thing that we would have never done when we lived in Florida....and it was actually fun. We went to a Civil War Reenactment....the Battle of Decatur. I have to admit..I don't know much about the Civil War. I've learned more about History since we moved up here than I ever learned in school and it's been very interesting. I am loving all of my History books that I have been collecting. I have to say.." the poor South needed a woman General by all means"!! Everyone knows you just don't stand in a line a few yards from the enemy and shoot your guns..lol. Ya hide behind the trees and surprise the enemy!!! I just thought it was so funny how they were "fighting this war". It didn't make sense to me. Oh get this...the Yankees had nurses running around the fighting field with them and they looked like " Raggedy Ann Dolls...lol. They had on black and white stripped leggings and red and white dresses. The Confederate nurses stayed behind a tree( smart women) and the soldiers brought the wounded to them. After the reenactment was over, we were allowed to walk through their camp, which was fun seeing how they spent the weekend in their pup tents and the South and North were all spread out among each other....lol. Lots of "rebel flags" were flying. There were larger tents that you could buy " Civil War "clothes, dishes, flags and all kinds of trinkets. They were selling homemade root beer, cream soda, cherry cider and birch beer. I got a root beer and Chuck got a cream soda. One tent had musicians playing and singing. The programs were free along with the reenactment. It was a fun afternoon that got us talking about the "war between the states". I'm learning so much!! My favorite part was the women dressed in their "period dresses".
