Carmichael Hall

Monday was the last of the " Shell visit fun", but about the time we think it's over, there is still more fun to be had. After lunch in Birmingham and a quick stop at " Smith's" we went to Carmichael Hall which is owned by Ms. Melanie Fay Johnson. Melanie Fay is one of my most favorite people that I know. She is so thoughtful, southern and funny. Every house she has ever owned has just been beautiful and inspires me to go home and make over my whole house. ( when I have one) Melanie has just started reading my blog and she went back to the very beginning so has followed the whole story of living in Florida and the move up here, through the cold, snowy winter and such. When she read about the barn flooding last summer and how most of my books got wet, she went through her books and filled two boxes with them, to give to me. There was another box of canning jars, books on tape, two so pretty blue and white table clothes ( she knows I will have a blue kitchen in the new house) and my most favorite were....three antique porcelain baby chicks. She gave us the tour of Carmichael Hall and every room was prettier than the next. She even showed us her " bee hive" in her back yard. She collected 18 pounds of honey from her bees last year. Not only getting to visit with Melanie Fay, but we also got to meet precious " Miss Lillie".....she is Melanie Fay's newest grand daughter , which she is her Nanny during the week. Spending the afternoon at Carmichael Hall, helped the sadness of taking Shell to the airport knowing that our fun four days was over. We are counting the days until she comes back again this summer . It will be here before we know it.
