Elegance !

Yes...after almost a year, I'm still decorating!  While Chuck was in Florida, Christina had given him two sets of the most beautiful lace curtains from Germany.  One of her friends moved back to Germany and gave Christina boxes and boxes of things from her house that she couldn't take with her.  When Christina saw the lace curtains, she thought of me and how I might be able to use them.  I did find a window for one set of them and I think they are just beautiful!   They are sheer enough that I can still see the woods out the window and the lace at the bottom is the prettiest ever.  They give the laundry room a sense of elegance along with the pretty framed mirror that I have over the sink.  What a pretty place I have to do laundry and my ironing.

Ever since we bought our land and saw our " little town" we were wishing that they would remodel the old theatre.  They tried to get a $2 million grant for the remodel but instead they are going to tear it down to make room for a parking lot for the new Court house Annex, they are building.   Chuck read in the paper Thursday that they were going to have a sale of everything in the theatre, starting Friday morning at 8:00.  Of course we were there right at 8:00 in hoping to be able to buy a piece of history( we bought a glass block) of our little town and also just to get to see what the theatre looked like inside.   It had been closed since 1969!  ...now that's a lot of  time for dirt and cob webs to gather and it was pretty dirty and falling down inside, but it sure was fun seeing it all.  We talked to several people ...you know how people talk to ya and tell ya their life history, up here..lol.  One older lady told us how she used to come to the movies there when she was little and how the " colored people" had their own separate entrance and ticket window.  Then they had to go up stairs to the baloney because they couldn't sit with the " whites".  She laughed and said that the colored had the best seats in the house.  Another lady told us she hadn't grown up there but her husband did and she was there to buy something for a surprise for him.  I'm always telling Chuck how I wish I could see our little town like it was when all the stores were open and the theatre was being used and the teenagers used to drive around and around the square on Friday nights.  The girls went one way and the boys the other....ha!  I feel so lucky to be able to live in our little town now....but I wish I could say...." yep! I grew up here". 

Little River Canyon

On the way home from the yard sale, we decided to drive through Little River Canyon. It's to bad it was raining because it was really pretty but with the mist and clouds down in the canyon, we really couldn't see too much.  We did get out and walk to the falls and that was nice.  We want to come back to this side of the state again when the weather is nice. I bet it will be just beautiful in the Fall.

On the way home from the longest yard sale, we went through Little River Canyon and we passed this old barn.  Yes, there are some old barns around that still have " See Rock City" on them.  I remember seeing them when I was little and we would drive through the country on the way to Ramsey, Illinois to see my Grand parents and Auntie Barbara.  ....so we just had to stop and take a picture of this one.

Even a casket!

 Well, our lives are back to normal since Chuck came home from Florida.....we're back to going here and there and having adventures.  I'm loving it!  We decided to go to the " longest yard sale" that is always on HGTV.  It started in Gadsden, Ala and went on through the states to Ohio.  We got up early and packed the cooler with our lunch and plenty of drinks.  It was suppose to be close to 100 degrees that day. ....we dressed accordingly.  It's a pretty drive over to Gadsden. The sale started on Look Out Mountain and went through little towns along the way.  Well, it started raining on us just as we got to the first set of yard sales.  We grabbed the umbrella's and started looking.  Most of the sales were under tents but the ones that weren't, got covered up with plastic.  Our very first purchase was a big cast iron bell that is " LOUD"!!!  I can ring it and Chuck will be able to hear it all the way down to the barn...heck, the BNOE will probably be able to hear it...lol.  Just about anything you were looking for, you could find...which most of it was way over priced.  From bath tubs, cast iron frying pans, unicycle, furniture, dishes, signs....lots of signs! ...to even a little casket.  I wanted to buy the casket to have for when it comes time to bury one of my kitties. ( I plan on having a cemetery here on the land), but the guy wanted waaaaaay too much money for the casket.  It poured down rain on us ALL day.  It would have been a lot more fun if it hadn't rained but we still had fun seeing all the " stuff".  We stopped at this one little shop and they had the best prices of all.  We got a bakers rack for the deck for only $12 and a glass server plate for $5.  Also got this little bottle for $1, that has wire around the top of it to hang in your window to root plants in.  ( I have it hanging in the sun room, rooting ivy) We talked to two girls from Maryland, that had rented a " closed in box truck" and they were filling it up with furniture and all kinds of treasures.  Every place we stopped, they were there.  It got to be funny. We ended up having our picnic in the explorer because it was lighting, thundering and pouring down rain to bad.  At least we weren't HOT all day.  ....just wet.  We'll probably do it again next year....IF it's not raining.

It's Time!

The "R" has been missing on our mailbox for awhile now.  Yesterday as we stopped at the mailbox to put some out going mail in it, we both laughed and said it was time to fix our name on the mailbox....lol. 

Home At Last!

 I lived here in the woods for 3 1/2 weeks by myself. Can you believe it?....my mom never would have.....believed it, that is.   Chuck had to drive to Florida because his Dad was rushed to the hospital.  Luckily, that turned out ok and his Dad is back home again.  .....BUT when it came time for us to move almost two years ago, we left the Camaro at the body shop to be painted.  It was suppose to have been done before we moved but that never happened.  It didn't happen during the almost two years we have lived here either.  Soooooo, Chuck made sure it got done while he was down there.  THAT is what took most of the 3 1/2 weeks.  He went with Shell to buy a new Mini Cooper also.  Now we don't have to worry about her car breaking down and her Daddy not being there to come rescue her.  I did pretty good handling things here on my own except for keeping everything mowed.  The push mower wasn't working right and there was no way I knew how to fix it.  ....that and the weed eating.   I made my first trip down to Montgomery and two trips to Birmingham without Chuck.  I never dreamed that I would be running all over Alabama by myself, but I found out that I can do it.  I did have four days of company when Christina came up for my Birthday.  It was such a nice break from being alone.  A week later, Chuck finally came home! It sure was nice to get my security blanket back.  I wouldn't want to live here all alone, but I found out that if I HAD too......I could.
